Hi, my name is Carola and I live in Santa Clarita, CA and I have been a caregiver for 27 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my family history, they all have been in medical, either caregiver or nurses, so it's kind of in my blood and I love helping other people, so that's why I became a caregiver and a CNA in the CHHA.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to listen to what the patients have to say, so you know and be patient because when you talk fast, they don't understand what you're saying. So be patient, listen and you really have to be caring about other people before you can really enter in this job and make sure everything is clear, so they don't trip or fall over things in their home.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I never will forget is-- we just had good, good times together. We just clicked the first time I entered in her house. I took her to church, I took her to her hairdresser, I took anywhere she wanted, we just had a great, great connection and she loved me like I was her granddaughter and I loved her like she was my grandmother. Her name was Doris and I love her very, very much and we had a very great experience. I was very lucky to be her caregiver.
