Hi, my name is Caroline. I live in Belvedere Tiburon, CA and I've been a caregiver for 20 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I have this passion for taking care of people. It first started when I came here to visit my aunt 20 years ago in L.A. She had a leg amputated, and she was in a wheelchair. I was with her, I looked after her. And then a few years down the line, my mom got sick. She had a stroke and later had her leg amputated. And she was at home with me. And I was looking after her. But overall, I have this big passion and this soft spot for older people, for the senior citizens who need care.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to be patient, loving, and kind. And when the clients offers jewelry or money to be given to you, don't accept it. Let the family know, or let the agency know. Remember that you a caregiver. You're not the boss. And the client comes first in everything. When everything is done to the client, then you can take a break.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client that I'll never forget is Jenny. She's sweet, patient, kind, loving, and very appreciative. She stays fun . She makes me laugh all the time. And she never objects to anything that I tell her to do.
