Hi, my name is Cassandra. I live in Thermal, CA and I have 16 years experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver when we were taking care of my grandmother. No one really knew much about Alzheimer's and dementia back then, and it was a great experience. And that's when I started getting more involved in caring for her. And as I got older, I went to school, became a nursing assistant, and then been doing caregiving ever since. I have 16 years experience and I love and I enjoy working and taking care of people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be you have to have lots of patience, understanding, and compassion, and love taking care of people. Making them comfortable when they're sick, when they're not feeling good. Be friendly and funny, just love doing it. And always giving 100% in everything that you do when it comes to cleaning, cooking, changing their diapers, each and every thing. Have a smile on your face and doing your best in everything. That is my advice to someone that is just starting.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Ruth. She was 102 years old, very funny, strong woman, very young at heart. She was funny, she liked to be out and about. Even as she got slower and her age, I mean she still loved being out. If it was just taking a drive, just being out seeing the world. And that's what I loved about her. Don't have to go out and travel the world, just being out, taking a drive, enjoying life, and seeing things. And that's what I really loved about her, she enjoyed her life.
