Hi, my name is Cathi. I live in Arlington, TX and I have been a caregiver for two years.

How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my love for people. Growing up every Sunday morning, I would go to La Vida Serena with my pastors and my sister, we would sing the church hymns then hang out with the elderly, take care of them and make sure they had a good time. I tried to become a caregiver when I lost my grandmother who was married with my grandfather for 70 years. My grandfather was kind of down and out, alone and he needed somebody to take care of him, I happily accepted that and it's definitely blessed me for sure.

What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver would be just be patient. Not everybody works at the pace that you do and showing kindess, patience and love towards the people that you are helping can really make a lot of difference.

Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget is Miss Russel. He wasn't really a client seeing as to how I haven't done this professionally. She was just a lady that I would visit at the nursing home every Sunday, the nursing home called La Vida Serena and every Sunday that I went in, she always thought I was her daughter and she keep calling me by her daughter's name and she would say, "Don't you rememer this, and don't you remember that?" and I always thought I was so pressured. Every Sunday I would say, "Yes, Miss Russel, I remember that we had a good time." We had the best times together and that's more of the memories that will forever be my favorite.
