Hi. My name is Chalise, I live in Hayward, CA and I've been a caregiver for 2 and a half years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love to help people. About two years ago my grandmother became very ill, so I decided to help her a little more. I went to her house after work every single day until she passed away.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be not to treat caregiving as a job. You have to love people, you have to love what you do, you have to be more of a companion, more of a friend.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget, name was Barbara, and she was my grandmother. The doctors gave her only six months to live, but I feel because I was there for her and I was there with her every day to help her with her everyday needs, I feel that I've played a role in her living a year-and-a-half longer than they said that she would. I just loved how, when I would come around, her face would light up. I could tell that she was very happy to see me, and she was happy to have someone around.
