Hello, my name is Chanel. I'm from Richmond, CA. I have three years of caregiving experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of personal reasons. I cared for three different family members on three different occasions. They were all terminally ill. Two family members I cared for with assistance, and the last family member I cared for solely by myself.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to remain compassionate and patient. To be very attentive to the needs of the patient, to learn the needs of the patient, and make sure that you are certain on how to handle any situation that may occur.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget caring for is Lawrence. Lawrence was my grandfather, and he is the client that I took care of solely by myself. I'll never forget that experience, because as a child, my grandparents raised me and my brother, and to take care of him as he got older and was terminally ill, I just never forget. One of the main reasons being that I was there with him until the very end of his time. I was in the house with him when he passed away, and that experience I will never forget.
