Hi. My name is Charlotte. I live in the San Leandro, CA and I have 20 years of experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of a friend of mine who needed help with her elderly, and I thought of helping them. And then I helped with relatives and family members, And then I loved the job because I know I'll make a difference in those people's lives. When they got sick, I did help them to try to live the rest of their lives to the fullest.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver is try at first to build a bond between a client. Let the clients understand that they can trust you, their caregiver. That way, they will cooperate. So they will understand that you're there to help them, and you're going to help them live their life to the fullest.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I'll never forget is Dorothy. Dorothy was returned to the hospital because she was dying. I didn't know when I was hired. She was returned home. She has three days to two weeks to live. I helped this person, and I got her hydrated. I got her so cleaned up. And instead of two or three days to two weeks to live, this person lived for another eight months. I helped her with all I can, and I know I did a very good job.
