Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
Hi, my name is Charmain. I'm from Pittsburg, California. I've been doing in-home care for four years. I became a caregiver because I feel the need to help, like they can't really do anything on their own as if everyone else can. So, I feel to just help them and make their life more easier and less stressful, I guess. Make them want to live on even though they can't function, do things on their own. I just care.
What type of care do you provide?
The type of care I provide is basically picking up, bringing you from the store, taking them from location to location, washing clothes, cleaning the house, prepping some meals to have ready for him so he'll be able to get it sitting out ready so he can just make do.
What makes you a great caregiver?
What I think makes me a great caregiver is that I'm just a warmhearted person in that I feel like I'm not going to treat you any different just because you're not able, you're still human. I understand, and I'm willing to help. If no one else will, I will.
What piece of advice would you give to a new caregiver?
What is your proudest moment as a caregiver?
One piece of advice to another caregiver would be don't be afraid, just bear with them. They're unable so make them feel like as if they're still able to walk around and do on their own.
The moments of a proud caregiver is when you just make me smile at the end of the day when making them feel like they can live on and feel free, I guess, accept themselves for who they are
