Hi, my name is Cherlyn. I live in Kerrville, TX and I've been doing home health for 17 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because a lady that I was was cleaning house for, for like eight years turned around, fell and broke her hip, and I started taking care of her as home health and it just went from there. I've been doing it for 17 years.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to be patient, understanding, loving, and make the patient feel very comfortable in their own home. That way they can live the rest of their life comfortably.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
My most memorable client was Alicia. She was my age, 52. She has cerebral palsy, partially deaf, partially mute and we became the best of friends. We could communicate with each other with sign language and just we were around each other enough that we understood each other. She had one hell of a sense of humor even though she was in the condition that she was in. I loved her tremendously and was sad when she passed away just a week ago.
