Hi, my name is Cheryl and I live in Upland, CA. And I have five years of caregiving experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I have a lot of compassion and I provide quality care to others who cannot completely care for themselves. I find caregiving is a very rewarding feeling for me. I certainly treat others the way I want to be treated.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be certainly listen to what the client's needs are and make sure that you have good verbal communication. That's always very, very important.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget was a 97 year old male. He was a stroke victim and he was unbelievable. I just loved taking care of this client. In the beginning, and this is about five years ago, he was somewhat independent but needed to be transferred several times throughout the day. And he needed care getting up in the morning, getting dressed, and being transferred throughout the day. He needed help with showering and assistance with being put to bed.
