Hi. My name is Christa. I live in Rolling Hills Estate, CA. And I've been a caregiver for 35 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because, I care for these people, and I love to take care of them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is, to be patient, be kind. Never take anything personal what the client says to you. Even they have bad days, also. And, take care of them 100% as best you can.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I'll never forget is a man named Leroy. He's a diabetic. One day, his family came over and they did bring cookies for him. I put them away in the kitchen. After company left, a little while later, I was looking for Leroy, and he made his way with the walker into the kitchen, found the cookies. And I asked him - he was not facing me, he was facing the countertop - and I said, "Leroy, what are you doing?" And he said, "Oh, nothing. I'm just looking for some fruit to eat." Then he turned around and had cookie crumbs all over his mouth.
