Hi, my name is Christina, and I live in San Jose, CA and I have four-plus years experience in caregiving.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver after taking care of both of my parents, who became ill with cancer over 20 years ago. The experience that I gained there led me to want to take care of the elderly, and I worked in in-home care with patients with dementia and Alzheimer's. So I've gained, outside of caring for family members, over four years of experience.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, first and foremost, to be patient and kind, and just overall, have a positive attitude.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget, his name was Al, and his wife was Inez. They were a couple who'd been married over 50 years, and they were in their late 90s. I was mostly there to take care for Inez, who was suffering with dementia. I was there every day, and it was just heartwarming when I would show up there, and the joy on both of their faces. And so much of my time there was spent really just talking and listening to some stories from Al.
