Hi my name is Cindy and I live in Van Nuys, CA. I've been a caregiver for eight years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my grandma was sick, so I started taking care of her for about three years with IHSS. From there, I started signing up for agencies. I also work private with other friends of my family that needed a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver will be for that person, when they work in the field of a caregiver, needs to have a lot of caring for others, needs to be patient, caring. She needs to be a really sweet person.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget, it's Mary. She's one of my recent persons that I used to take care of, and she was a really emotional person, also, a very caring person. She was a really sweet person. She always wanted me to work with her. And every time somebody else would cover me or go on the weekend - because I used to work Monday through Friday with her - she always used to tell me, "Oh, I miss you. They don't do their job like you do. You need to teach them, and you need to do this and that for them." So she was really-- I have a lot of them, clients, that I will never forget because I have many memories, but she's one that I remember, and I will never forget. So she was a really-- all of them, but she was a really special person too for me.
