Hi, my name is Cinnamon. I live in Dallas, TX and I have been a caregiver for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I always had a passion to help the elderly. I find wisdom in being around them and love their company.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have patience and be considerate. I learned that the elderly, having patience with them helps achieve any goal. Sometimes they are unable to do a lot of things for themselves and it frustrates them, so having patience and listening to what they are saying will help you in the long run. Also, I have learned to learn from them. They can teach you how they want to be cared for properly if you just listen.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget was an 89-year-old lady. I cared for her for a year and when I became pregnant, every day she would ask me, "Is the baby here yet?" and I really enjoyed sharing stories about pregnancy with her because it brought her of a time of remembrance and it brought her to a time back when she was happy having her kid. I loved sharing different stories and getting her wisdom on having a baby because she had learned from experience.
