Hi, my name is Clarissa. I live in Stonyford, CA and I've been a caregiver for 6 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I grew up with a sickly grandmother and took on the role of taking care of her at a young age, when I was still in high school. I also got sick at a younger age, and it kind of put a crossing in my life that made me decide that I wanted to go into the medical field. I also became a caregiver because it's one of the steps to become an RN, and that is one the goals in my life I'd like to achieve.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to always maintain patience with your client and always treat them no less than what your own family members or loved ones would be treated. You always want to have that respect for them and show them with the utmost respect.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget would have to be Fred. I took care of him when I first moved to Sacramento, and I knew nobody and had no family there. And he kind of took me and my family underneath his wing. He was always very caring and would help us out, and we would help him out too. I would always go above and beyond for making sure he had what he needed. Also, my daughter's birthday, he bought her her first toddler bed. He just adored her and that's something I would never forget.
