Hi, my name is Claudia and I live in LA and I have five years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I'm a medical assistant and when I was working as medical assistant, the main experience that I got was working with elderly people. I met my co-worker and she told me about home care, and she explained to me how we can go to their house where they feel comfortable. That they do as simple as companion or assisting the patient with their needs. That's why I became caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, it's nice to be involved with the patient by asking about the family, how they feel and when they feel comfortable and you're being more like friends with them, they share new things with you. The hours spent with them will be more like spending with a friend than of a job that you have to do.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget, she was 92 or 93 years and she doesn't have a family. Her husband and son died. So everyday she was like, "Oh, my God, what am I going to do? I'm 92, what am I supposed to do? I need to go with my family. I need to go with them. I don't know where Why I don't feel alive?" Then we started talking and shared aout her life with her husband and son and relived the happy memories which helped her a lot. I will always remember her because she was so positive in life.
