Hi, my name is Cleo. I am not only a caregiver, but also I'm a Certified Nursing Assistant. I've been a caregiver now for a little over six years. And I live in Henderson, TX.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my father. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer and at one point they gave him three months to live, but he ended up living six years. I took care of him the whole time while he was in need. What made me want to get in this field was my father, seeing the ups and downs, seeing everything that he had to go through, and the strives, the challenges. And so, I not only became a caregiver, I wanted to go further.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, is that each one that you see, some how, some way is going to touch your heart. You're going to feel attached to that person. You're going to want to do and go over beyond for that person. But at the same time, you have to know when to de-attached yourself. Because if you don't, you will allow everything that that person going through to affect you. And sometimes it can be in a negative way. And that person may see or feel what you're feeling towards them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never, ever forget is Miss Dora. She is the most loving, caring person that I have ever met in my life. She has gone through so many trials and so many tribulations that it seems like every day when she want to give up, I never allow her to give up.
