Hi, my name is Connie. I live in Hemet, CA and I have been a caregiver for eight years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because it is my passion. I like to dedicate my time to helping others that are unfortunate to help themselves. I also have a grandmother with Alzheimer's, and inspired me to help individuals as a whole.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have a lot of empathy, to listen, patient, kind and is willing to help.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Jeff. Jeff was like a child. If he didn't get his way, he would take all of his frustrations on you. He would want to fire you, not cooperate, not take his medications, not eat, not do anything. I would walk out and give him time to calm down, to gather his thoughts together. But after that, it was back to normal. We just had a very close relationship, not only as his caregiver but as a friend because I listened.
