Hi, my name is Contrell. I've been a caregiver for over five years and I live in San Diego, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I enjoy working with people, elderly specifically, and I always want to be in the medical field, and I have currently looking into schools to further my education as a caregiver in the medical field.
What advice would you give a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to always be patient, caring, and treat the client with the utmost respect, and most importantly, to keep everything confidential and just to do your best and go above and beyond and if they yell at you, don't take things personal. You're in that business to help them get through their difficult time in life, and just be as patient as possible and you'll enjoy your time as a caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable client?
The client that I will never forget was a gentleman that I touched his life. He was a 93-year-old gentleman and we had a bond. We actually became, like, friends and family. I really enjoyed him. I changed some of his ways of thinking. He didn't see that a male could be a nurse and I kind of changed that view for him as we became closer and closer and unfortunately he passed away but I was able to transition him into the next life and just be there for him and listen to him and laugh with him and it was a great experience that I'll never forget.
