Hi. My name is Courtney. I currently work in Redding, CA, and I have been a caregiver for 4 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was looking after my great-grandmother, and I decided that it's something that I love to do. I have a passion for helping people, and I love the way it makes me feel when I can assist someone in their daily life.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to always remember why you're doing your job and go back to the roots of what inspired you to start in the first place and always keep your patience. The clients that you care for, they have trouble doing things themselves. So they rely on you to do a lot, and it's important to remember that.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I will never forget was an older gentleman who had lost his wife to cancer a few years before. He need help around the house, light housekeeping, and running errands. You could tell he was lonely, so I would stay past my required time off the clock and talk with him a bit about his life and about his wife. He really enjoyed that time that we spent together, and I would go over and beyond just to make sure he was comfortable when I left.
