Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
Hi, my name is Cristina. I live in Concord, and I’ve been a caregiver for 4 years now. I finished my nursing degree and became a registered nurse in the Philippines. When I came here, I decided to become a caregiver. I love to care for elderly people because of my grandparents in the Philippines.
What have you learned about caring for people with dementia?
What I've learned about caring for people with dementia is that you must be patient, and you have to learn how to get along with them. You have to be understanding of their mood swings, and you have to take care of them wholeheartedly in order to understand them like your own.
How would others describe you as a caregiver?
People tell me I'm a good caregiver because I'm a very sociable person and I get along easily with other people, especially the elderly. I treat them as I would my own grandparents, and having been a registered nurse in the Philippines, my heart has always been in taking care of the elderly.
