Hi, my name is Crystal. I live in San Antonio, TX. I've been doing caregiving for about two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I took care of my grandma for about a year and a half or so, and I just enjoy helping people who are unable to help themselves, and I am also in the process of going to school to be a nurse just because I do enjoy helping people out.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be sweet, have patience, understand that they are elderly. They are set in their ways. Again, I think patient is key to understanding where they're coming from.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Miss Jenny. She had dementia. When I first started with her she was early stages, but it progressed very quickly. She would forget a lot of things. She would always think that I was her daughter or somebody that she knew. She was saying a lot, which was very cute. We had dinner together and she would sit there and sing, and she was just as happy as can be until her dementia did get a little worse for her, but I was still able to manage her care and take care of her as well as I could.
