Hi my name is Cynthia. I live in Sun City, CA and I'm an experienced caregiver and also a CNA. I've been a caregiver for at least 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer and placed on hospice and then so I started getting into caregiving for her, of course. Taking care of a loved one is the best hands-on experience you could get. Then I got a very tender heart and knew that this was my passion, this was what I wanted to do to serve others.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to anyone wishing to become a caregiver would be big part of caregiving, you have to be compassionate. You have to have a heart for caring for others. You have to be empathic and listen to the person that you're serving. You have to know that you need time for yourself to eat well, exercise, and rest your own body. That would be some of my tips for a caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
One of my clients that I will never, ever forget in my lifetime, her first name was Betty and I just loved her sassiness, her spunk, her little walk, and just the little laugh, and jokes that she would tell. That was one of my best clients ever, ever.
