Hi my name is Cynthia. I live in North Highlands, CA and I've been a caregiver for seven years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of a friend needed help taking care of his nephew. I could see that they really needed help. I wasn't really wanting to care for somebody but then once I started I realized that I'm very good at it, I like it, I love helping people that are in need. It makes me feel good inside.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to caregiver is just realize they need the help and when you help them you'll feel good inside knowing that you help people that are less fortunate than you. Patience is a very big thing. Patience and just to be their friend and their companion is very rewarding just knowing that.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I'll never forget is pretty much every day is Cole and just to make him laugh because he's totally disabled, he can't walk, he can't do so many things, he can't even feed himself because he has braces on his arms and everything. Knowing that it just breaks my heart but to see him laugh and to chuckle I will always remember it. It's amazing just to see him smile is awesome because his life is very bad because he's so disabled.
