Hi, my name is Cynthia. I live in San Diego, and I have two years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver, because I care for elderly people, especially because I've noticed throughout that time that sometimes they are by themselves, or nobody's watching them, and I don't know. It just touches me to have some time of bonding with somebody that may be alone or that needs.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver will be have a lot of patience. Always make sure they're always happy. Be always on task. Make sure they have everything they want at the time. Make sure they always feel comfortable and welcome and always be polite.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Esther. It is a heart-warming story, because she was a really loving person. The problem with her was she had Alzheimers, so she usually forgot where she was or anything that she remembered about her. So I had to keep her calm, show her pictures, and tell her where she was, who I was, and it was really, really nice having a person like this, because when she started to remember things, she felt really happy to have somebody to help her and remember all the warming stories that she had that she told me
