Hi, my name is Cynthilena, and I live in the city of Inglewood, CA. I've been a caregiver for one year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I've been caring for the elderly for more than three years. I'm from Jamacia. I did it with my dad for two years, giving him hope. He passed or whatever but however within that time I made him feel comfortable, patient with him, just love him, make him feel loved, not worried. And I love doing it, it inspired me to continue helping other senior citizens to feel better even when they're sick.
What advice would you give to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, the first rule, you have to be patient. No matter what, you have to be very gentle with that person you're working with. Also you must at all times make them feel loved. Don't be rushing them. Don't be ill treating them. Let them feel that no matter what happens, you are always there for them, even when they're sick and down. That way, you will always be remembered in their hearts.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Clarice. I've cared for her for about four months. She was a very ill person and every time I came to work she would be smiling. I treated her with love and respect. She was always happy to see me and she treated me well.
