Hello, my name is Danica, I live in Pasadena, CA and I have been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my grandfather needed extra help around the house as he's getting older, he is currently 78 years old, and he's starting to get dementia kind of a little bit, and so I thought maybe I could help him and also other people so I started working for a facility and I really loved it and now I want to do it for a living.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have patience and always smile. That smile can go a long way. It's a fun job and it's just about being loving and if you have a caring heart I think it is a job for you.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget would be my resident, Mable, where I'm currently working. She is 104 years old. She's been on hospice for five years and she does not take any medication at all. The only thing she takes is vitamins. She's such a strong woman. She smiles all the time and she's just great. She's probably one of my easiest residents and I love her.
