Hi, my name is Danielle. I live in Broad Brook, CT. I have about two years of home care and clinical experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I have some ailments in my family, diabetes, and ever since I was a little kid, I wanted to be a nurse. I've gone to Stone Academy, I became an LPN and I'm currently trying to become an RN. I just enjoy the homecare atmosphere, I enjoy being the companion of the older people. They seem to really enjoy the companion and I think that's about it.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be same as almost anything in life. Just be yourself. The person you're caring for enjoys your company most likely and it's a very rewarding thing to feel like you have improved the life of somebody else. It's just a very rewarding career.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget is Hilda. I was there in the evenings while her daughter went to work as a nurse. She had advanced-stage Alzheimer's. She was the sweetest lady I've ever met. She was funny and very just relaxed. She was so nice and just to see the smile on her face when I came in, the excitement in her eyes, was more than enough for me.
