Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
My name is Danielle I live in San Francisco, California. I've been doing caregiving for about five years now. What brought me closer to caregiving is taking care of my own grandmother and dealing with her sickness.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
I worked with teens - mentally behavior active kids -, I worked with adults, I've worked with elderly people that was more on the behavioral side other than like the sick side. [music] I have had a client that I connected with, she was a real wonderful lady. She really got me drawn more closer to the job to we had great experience, we always did outings. Like I took her out to eat, sometimes we'll go to the mall and it just brought me real close to her. She talks to me about everything like even now with me moving and me not working with her she still calls me and contact me and ask me how I'm doing.
Tell us more about the care you provided for your client.
One of the stories was we were in a house and we were getting ready to go on an outing - it was hot this day - and sometimes we'll take the ladies on an outing to go swimming and get water aerobics. So that particular day she wanted to go to water aerobics and the class they wasn't running it that day and she just wanted to do that. She didn't even care about getting in the water she wanted to do the exercises. So I told her I'd do it with her and she felt much better about that and we had went to do it but she didn't take the class with them I [chuckles] did the class with her. And so it was like we both got a workout and it was fun. It really turned out to be a good day because I thought it was going to be terrible, but it turned out to be a good, good day.
What did you learn from your client? She really helped me out a lot where certain situations, like I have-- I listen completely but she taught me to always endure and intake every information that someone is willing to give you. Because you never want to say you know too much or you've learned too much it's not nothing on this earth that you could know too much about. I learned that from her there is always something new to learn.
