Hi! My name is Dariel. I live in Berkeley, CA, and I've been a caregiver for nine years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because, my nine-year-old brother got hit by a car, and he ended up on a ventilator and being paralyzed. So, we brought him home, and that's how I became a caregiver, caring for my brother.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to make sure that you're doing your job. If you see something that's not right, you need to make sure you're reporting it. And, be on time to work, and take your work very serious.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Steven. He was deaf, and a paraplegic, but he had so much ambition and get-up-and-go about his-self, and he also taught me sign language.
