How did you become a caregiver?
I became a caregiver because I started to caring for my own sister for 7 years and then I went to a boarding school for 4 years and so I worked out of school I took care of elderly people.
What are your responsibilities as a caregiver?
I've cared for a varitey of different type of people. But my sister I did a bit of everything I helped her getting shower, eating, putting clothes on, I was by her all the time reading stories to her, keeping company, going wherever she needs, and making sure she's happy. For the other people I helped it was the same. Going on walk, read, watch tv with them, build a relationship with them. Help them with whatever they need.
What have you learned most in this journey?
What I learned most was the fact that when you are working with someone, you should not treat them differently as you treat your own family or your mom because you don't know if you leave the job what the person is going to remember you as. The person should remember you as someone that was nice someone that was there to help them, someone that was there to have a good laugh with. Treat them good and try to help them.
What piece of advice would you give to a new caregiver?
Be yourself, be respect and try to help others as much as you can. Just be yourself and be happy.
