Hi, my name is Deidre I live in Los Angeles, CA and I have 13 years of experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because both of my parents had passed away in the '90s, and in the '90s I was working full time in the entertainment industry, and I wasn't at their bedside. So I started work at caregiving 13 years ago in honor of my parents who have passed away.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have extreme patience and compassion, and ambition to learn the healthcare industry with an idea of moving forward, getting more certification and more education in order to qualify for more positions in healthcare.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget was my very first in-home care client, Ms. Geneva. She was an Alzheimer's client. I worked with her for three years, and she had no verbal use of her voice. Our only communication was through eye contact and a few hand gestures that she could make. I'll never forget that client.
