Hi! My name is Deja. I've been a caregiver for one year, and I live in San Leandro, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because, I received some pretty terrible health care, which made me just want to be an advocate for others, and make sure they can receive happiness from people who are supposed to be taking care of them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, pay attention to your clients. Make sure you let your clients put their needs before yours, and while you're there, be interactive with them. Don't be on the phone. Just make sure you don't, because you're there for them, so make sure you're paying attention to your client.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget, I met her while I was doing my training at a Shields Nursing home in El Cerrito. It was just a breath of fresh air for me, because she was so energetic, and even though she had Alzheimer's, I really swear that she remembered me. And it was cute, because she was married, and her husband was also there with her, and their bond was fantastic.
