Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
Hi, my name is Demilia I live in San Leandro, and I've been a caregiver for three years
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I'll never forget is Shannon. I worked with her for like, two years. She had anger issues, she was always looking down on herself. I was always there for her whenever she's angry - she wants a friend sometimes. So I'd calm her down and say, "Don't worry. It's going to be okay. Everything's going to be fine." And so, I built a relationship, and she was always comfortable to talk to me whenever she has issues or a problem. And then, we'll work things out, and then I will just tell her that everything's going to be fine.
What are your strengths as a caregiver?
What I think makes me a good caregiver is because I'm patient, I'm understanding, I'm caring, I'm always there when you want to say something, or when you want to talk, or when you want to discuss something. I'm always there to listen, and also to give my own view about certain things, and then, we'll work those out.
What is your proudest moment as a caregiver? My proudest moment as a caregiver was with my client that I mentioned before, Shannon, because at first, she was so difficult to work with, but at the end, we got along so well. And then, my supervisor was always complimenting me that I'm doing a good job with Shannon.
