Hi. My name is Denasia. I'm from Sacramento, CA and I have 3 years in caregiving experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I help my mom with my little sister. She's actually disabled. And I've just seen how hard and frustrating it was on my mom, so I decided just to take over and come and help. And I just really realized that either seniors or either people with mental illnesses, they really need help. And I just love to help them and make everything easier.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver will be basically have a lot of patience, be very understanding, and listen and keep telling them everything will be okay. And just be very understanding because this is a very hard time for them, and they just want to be self-love and very comfortable at this time of need.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my dear friend Arty. I had to take care of her for a very long time in a community that I was working in. I had a lot of fond memories of her because she was very kind to me. She was very understanding and always willing to teach me a lot of things. Thanks to her I learned how to be very patient. I learned how to first explore the client environment. I also learned about them. She brings me a lot of memories because I will never forget that she was always trying to help me out.
