Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
Hi, my name is Denise. I live in San Francisco, and I've been a caregiver for 13 years. I became a caregiver because of my mom. She has been in the field all my life and just seeing her do the work and going in to work with her when younger -- I just fell in love with doing the job.
The first person that comes to mind is Minuette. She was 91 years old when I first started working with her, and I cared for her until she was 95. She was such a sweetheart and feisty! What I admired most about her was her wonderful stories about her dancing when she was younger and wishing her legs were still the same. She would try to get up and show me some of her moves, but it was hard. She did what she could, and I loved it.What piece of advice would you give to a new caregiver?
If I can give one piece of advice to a new caregiver, I would say just take your time, be patient, and if you don't know, don't be afraid to speak up because there's always someone to help you, to teach you. Don't be afraid. What is your proudest moment as a caregiver?
My proudest moment as a caregiver was when I was taking care of my uncle last year. I was just so happy that he chose me to take care of him. That was my proudest moment.
