Hi, my name is Destine. I live in Dallas, TX. And I've been a caregiver for seven years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I like to help others. And when I first started my first job at making resources, I was dealing with people with disabilities. And I like to care for people and just make sure they're comfortable, their needs are met, and they're happy at the hardest times of their life.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to make sure that this is something that you're passionate about and that you care about because at times it can be hard, and sometimes you can grow an emotional attachment to people. And just make sure that you have the strength, wisdom, and that will power to be the person that you need to be to help those people in their time of need.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is Philip. He was a very sweet, caring man. He had dementia. And I was there to see him through his downfall. But even in that time, he was so sweet. His girlfriend, like him, just was caring and he was more concerned about her and how she would do when he was gone. And he was more concerned about everything else around him than himself. He was just the sweetest, caring person ever. And he just bring lots of joy and happiness to everyone around him. And he didn't let people dwell on the fact that he was sick. He made sure that his family was happy.
