Hi, my name is Demira. I live in San Diego, and I've been a caregiver for five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my grandmother who was diagnosed with dementia at 84 years old. I took care of her from 84 to the time she passed at 96. She was my inspiration for wanting to get into the business of caregiving.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be compassion. Be compassionate and be understanding. Those two are needed. I feel that the most when it comes to caring for our seniors.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget was Lori. Lori was a 93-year-old woman who broke her neck at 92, and she had so much life and spunk in her. It's just a wonderful thing to see that someone at that age can continue on and be strong. I will never forget her.
