Hi, I'm Donna, I live in Benecia, CA and I've been a caregiver for five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver when my grandmother passed away because I've seen her being treated poorly and I never wanted to have any of my family members experience that again, So I wanted to make the difference.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to future caregivers would be to have patience and to listen because you cannot help somebody who you're not listening to.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Maine. He was a 27-year-old male autistic client who was in a middlehouse facility. He wouldn't walk and he wouldn't take showers. After a year of working with me, he graduated the program. Walking, showering, he has his own house now and I'm no longer with the hospital that he was staying in, so he does call me and check up on my children.
