Hello! My name is Doquisha, and I'm from Lancaster, CA. I have two years experience of being a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because, honestly, I think I just have a second nature of taking care of people and helping people. I recently graduated from nursing school for LVN, so it's definitely just a field that I feel like I was born to do, and I get a lot of fulfillment just knowing that I made someone else life easier or brought joy to them and their family. So it's really just a rewarding career, so that's why I became a caregiver. Just second nature of wanting to help people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to definitely be patient. Be very observant to learn your client so that you both will be comfortable in both of your positions. Definitely be a team player, and just be very open minded, and expect the unexpected. Each day will bring something new and exciting, and you really just have to have patience and an open mind to be a successful and a happy caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a client that actually had a brain tumor. And I only cared for her for a short amount of time, but she was just so hopeful and so kind, and she made me feel like I was doing a really good job. And when she told her family what a great job I did, that was really the reward. And months later, I ended up coming across this same client, and she wasn't doing well. She was pretty much at the end of her life.
