Hi, my name is Dorrette. I live in the city of Baytown., TX and I have 4 years of experience in taking care of seniors.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my best friend was sick and she needed someone to take good care of her, and she had no one but me as a good friend. So I decided to take the time out to take good care of her, give her a bath, fix her meals, and take her to get medications and take her to her doctor's appointments. That's what really set in my spirit, that being a caregiver is something that we need to love to do and also enjoy, to be near the elderly people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be loving, kind, and be patient, to be punctual and also to give respect to whomever they are taking care of, and be a trustworthy person because when we give respect to others we will receive respect.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a couple that I was in-charged of, and they didn't have much patience, but being around them taught me how to love them in spite of what they were going through. I made their day be enjoyable by smiling, by talking with them, and by being there when they need me the most. I remember at the end of the day I gained their trust, I gained their respect, and in turn, they loved me to the very end.
