Hello, my name is Ebony. I live in Los Angeles, CA and I've been a caretaker for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mother was diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the liver. I took care of her for three years before she passed away and also, I'm currently a caregiver for my grandmother. She was diagnosed with heart disease, she has frequent heart attacks, strokes and she just had heart surgery and so I've been doing that for a year now for my grandmother.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, the patient's safety is always first and it takes a lot of patience.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I'll never forget is Tony. Even though she knew she was in her last days, she was always warm, kind, positive and always kept a smile on her face. We would always do things together, go on outings and just have a beautiful time together. She was never negative and never a down, dull person. She always had a beautiful smile and just stayed positive no matter what.
