Hi. My name's Edwin Koh. I'm a nursing student at Cal State Long Beach. I live in Long Beach, and I have caregiving experience at least of one year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver after I was involved in a motor vehicle accident, and I was being taken care of by nurses. And it inspired me to become a caregiver because I felt that I could make someone else's life different.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be patient, to understand the patient, to prioritize what the patient needs, and be an active listener.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
Client that I will never forget would be this client who was having difficulty breathing and was gagging constantly. And I needed to suction the client every 15 minutes. At the end of the care, he held my hand, and he thanked me.
