Hi, my name is Emerita and I live in Covina, CA. And I have five years experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because due to the neglect that was given to my grandfather. I found that I had to do something to show how to treat the elderly. And, because what I do, I want the same care, the same treatment to be given to me when I get older. That's why I'm doing this, because I know they need help. They need care. And if you give this to them, you're giving back their dignity and respect they deserve .
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, do the best that you can, have respect and care for the elderly, or the client you are working with, as if you were taking care of your own family. That would be my advice. Take care of them as your own family.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget, my client's wife gave me a bouquet of flowers on Mother's Day, in appreciation of the work I was doing. She told me, of all the caregivers that she hired or were sent to her house, I was the only one that did more than I was supposed to do; I went beyond. And that was really nice of her to thank me. Especially when you work on Mother's Day for 12 hours and with flowers. That was very nice and sentimental.
