Hi, my name is Erica. I live Houston, TX. I've been a caregiver for over 20 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I come from a line of nurses and I really, thoroughly enjoy helping people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have a lot of patience, respect, understanding, and empathy for the person you're taking care of. Be sure to listen to some of their needs are, also, set yourself goals every day, and try to get those things done on a set time every day.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Miss Mary. She was a very nice, warm lady. She had five children that were all very active in her care. She was on a feeding tube for two years before it got her. She expressed to me that she had tried to wanted to eat food, so we started with smaller foods like mashed potatoes and peas, and after about a year I had her eating and her feeding tube was gone. She was a wonderful, wonderful woman to work for.
