How did you get into caregiving?
So the person who inspired me to become a caregiver is my mom. She was a housekeeper in the city in San Francisco. The family who she would do the housekeeping, they would have a family member who was the father of the wife. He was in need of help at times. Sometimes he had problems remembering stuff, and my mama as soon as she heard that she thought of me, because she knows since I was a baby I wanted to become a paramedic
What did you like most about that client?
One thing that I admired him the most about him is that he was pretty in his senior years, but he never gave up. Like some of his family members will be like, "Nah, he's already too old," but he would be like, "Nah, I'm not too old. My heart is still young. I feel young," and then I would be like, "I want to be like him one day." Maybe one day I'm going to get into his age and I might need a caregiver. Who knows? But I want to be like him. He's still feels like from the inside, he still a young person.
What advice would you give to a new caregiver?
One piece of advice for a new caregiver is just that knowing that it's not a job. It's basically becoming a new friend to somebody else who needs help, and knowing that, if you have the time to do it, then I think you should do it.
