Hi, my name is Erica, I have been a caregiver for four years and I live in Campbell, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I did have a family friend that needed some assistance during an injury and that was a long time ago. Ever since then, I decided to pursue caregiving as a career. I also enjoy helping others and taking care of them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be open-minded as much as you can because with caregiving, you do encounter different personalities and being open-minded is, in my opinion, a key component of being successful and being happy in caregiving. The more content you are with caregiving, the better care you can provide for your client.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Linda. She was in her mid-70s and at the time I was 21, it was 2014, so obviously social media was the hit and she asked me: "Do you have a Twitter?" and I told her, "No. I actually don't. I tried it once but I don't really understand how it works and I don't see the point." Well, she made me make a Twitter and when I had sent her a friend request, I was floored because she had 3000 something followers. I still made my Twitter and I couldn't, like I said, really understand how it works. The next day when I was at her house, she thought me how to use it and it was hilarious, more like, wow, like I should be hip with it. She was more hip than I was. That's a story between Linda and I.
