Hi my name is Erika, I've been a caregiver for four years and I live in Citrus Heights, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I worked for a non-profit development facilities and my client got sick and I didn't know how to take basic vitals. So I decided to go and I've just finished my LDN and I decided to get into nursing.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to make sure that you listen, that's the most important part is listening to your client and making sure that you can satisfy their standard needs.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
I will never forget a client by the name of Joyce. When I was taking care of her, I got to learn the little things that made her happy and what made her smile and it was important to her and her family that she was able to have a happy time, well she could and learning the little things like having a cup of tea ready when she was getting up and making sure that the right show was on the TV, just having things, being able to anticipate her needs beforehand was wonderful and I'll never forget the amount of thanks I got from her family as well, it was a very memorable time.
