Hi, My name is Erika. I live in Perris, CA and I have been a caregiver for five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because mainly I graduated as a registered nurse from school recently. So I started taking up caregiving jobs to build up my experience while I take my board for my RN test. I've been a caregiver pretty much my whole life. That's why I decided to be a nurse.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to take care of all your patients with love and compassion and to treat them as if they were your own family members. I learned a lot during nursing school. I think that was the number one thing that I really did look for when a teacher told me to make sure you take care of the person as if they were you family member.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a cancer client that I took care of. She was 95 years old. And the reason why I really did look up to her was that she was so positive throughout her chemo and throughout her care. She taught me a lot about life. And she was always just very positive regardless of how sick she was.
