Hi, My name is Erika. I live in Vacaville, CA and the years of experience that I have for caregiving is 15.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver after I cared for my grandmother and my great-grandmother before their passing, and it gave me an idea of what I wanted to do which was to help people and to have more hands on with clients. So this is why I became a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, be open-minded when you're going on these assignments and understand that every client and every case is different. You're not going to really run into too many that's the same. So some clients may require more than others, but be open if you don't know something, to be open to learning something new. So I just say, "Just keep an open mind and just be open to learning new things."
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Frances. I worked for Frances for two years before she passed. Working with her started out as supposed to be just for four hours a day, and I believe five days a week. After a month or so, the family liked me so much and also Frances liked me too wherein the family decided to pay for four more hours. So I continued caring for Frances for eight hours out there.
